Mother and Child

Almost 80% of all the patients served by Karuna-Shechen are women and children. In remote areas of eastern Tibet, Karuna-Shechen educates mothers, families, and communities on maternal and newborn health (MCH), pre-natal, birth, and post-natal care as well as counsels women on social issues.

In India, through the services of the Shechen Medical and Mobile Clinics, mothers are taught hygiene practices and how to care for newborns. The clinics are planning to add additional medical and health education programs focused on helping women and children, including immunization programs and nutrition counseling.

Shechen Clinic in Nepal has a gynecologist on staff who specializes in family planning and women's health. Mothers and children benefit from psychological counseling and social welfare programs.
