Clinics and Dispensaries, Tibet
Karuna-Shechen has built and supported sixteen small clinics and dispensaries in eastern Tibet. All patients are treated free of charge. Small medical dispensaries offer allopathic and Tibetan medicine after consultations.
The clinics are often the only medical care facilities available for the Tibetan population in the surrounding areas and are vital for the health of the local people. 6,200 nomads and farmers benefit from Karuna-Shechen through clinics located in remote regions.
Health outreach is an important part of serving people in isolated communities. Foreign volunteers have trained the permanent staff and visited surrounding areas.
Karuna-Shechen's Medical Emergency Program helps destitute people who cannot get to a hospital for life-threatening diseases, accidents, or treatable disabilities. Many lives have been saved and children helped through this program.
